This Generation
This generation never ceases to amaze. Consider this scenario, a rich young man is taking his new girlfriend in his newest Mercedes-Benz, when the girl suddenly tells him, “Dear, I am happy to be your friend, but there is something sad I need to tell you.” The young man's countenance changes suddenly. He asks, 'What is it dear?' The girl replies, “I am HIV positive!” The boy sighs then says, 'You scared me! I thought you would say this car is not mine!'
In a generation with a materialistic mindset and a carefree attitude like this young man's, where consequences to actions no longer matter, I wonder what Gospel need to be told. They are indifferent and unresponsive to the message of salvation. Christ rightly put it, 'To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the market place and calling to one another, ''We piped you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.''' Luke 7:31.
Most of today's preachers have turned to the Gospel of prosperity and well-being in order to appeal to this generation as this is what they would love to hear. All that preach the plain gospel of Christ are shunned. Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy said, '.the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.' 2 Tim 4:2-3. Hear that?
So what is the hope of this generation?
The gospel of salvation is meant to be a Gospel of conversion-a gospel of change! It is not about maintaining the status quo. Anything less, is not what Christ preached. Unless this generation repents, then there is no hope (Luke 13:1-3). We need to change. No warning befits this generation than what Apostle Peter said during the day of Pentecost, “and he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, save yourselves from this crooked generation." (Acts 2:40). Behold, Messiah is coming! As the days of Noah were, so shall the coming of the son of man be, for they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away Matt 24:39. The wealth of this generation shall be as chaff, his might as nothing and knowledge as foolishness. The mighty of the earth shall flee from the Grandeur of the Lord. "Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the generals and the rich and the strong, and every one, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains..." (Rev.6:15). Nothing will save them from the wrath of God. It will be too late.
